MISSION

The Millennium Group is dedicated to the cause of promoting education, preserving culture and history of all citizens
and providing social and cultural experiences for all of the community.

Proposed Activities of the Millennium Group:

Cultural Museum (Information on  Nelson County Oral History Center Project
Cultural growth and education of citizens of Nelson County in African American history and heritage in general and in Nelson County in particular.
- Will be set up in the building and will include monthly events and/or activities geared toward cultural growth and education such as lectures, book
readings, plays, etc. Also to bring in outside groups for plays, etc.

The Millennium Group received a grant from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF) in March of 2007 to be used to aid in the
collection of oral history on the life and experiences of Nelson citizens 80 years and older
.


Educational Growth and Progress

Computer Classes and Workshops

- Tutorial classes for grades K-12 in areas such as Reading, Math and Science to be taught by volunteers from the community.
- Standardize Test Preparation and tutorials for Standards of Learning, SAT & AP tests
To be taught by volunteers from the community.

Vocational Training
- Job preparation: instruct individuals on how to apply for a job and maintain a job; teach basic job skills such as use of computer, answering
phones, etc.
To be taught by board members and volunteers from the community.

GRANTS RECEIVED
The Millennium Group received a grant in June of 2007 from Bama Works Fund of Dave Matthews Band in the Charlottesvlle Area Community
Foundation to assist in upgrading the Technology Lab
. In June of 2009 MG received it's second grant from Bama Works Fund of Dave Matthews
Band in the Charlottesvlle Area Community Foundation to assist in further upgrading the Technology Lab and to assist with NC Oral History Center
Project
.   MG received a grant from Nelson County Community Foundation (NCCF) in the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, April,
2010 to be used towards the project: "The Study of Integration in Nelson County/Public School System". In May, 2010 MG received a grant from
the Smyth Foundation (Gordon & Mary Beth Smyth)/CACF. Thank you CACF


Civic Meetings
Community groups could use the building for monthly meetings and other training activities for their groups. Anticipate start scheduling immediately upon receipt of building.
Dinners/Banquets
To be used dinners and banquets for groups who need to have fund-raisers.


Recreational Activities
Outside Basket Ball Courts and grounds to be used for various events.
